Back in May, I had a visit from a wonderful friend Jennifer Carr. She and I met through a photography forum. She and her husband had visited the area back in January and we met for dinner. Being they were experiencing our beautiful mountains in the dead of winter I had the thought to invite her back in the spring when the leaves had bloomed and the mountains are just bursting with new growth and beauty.
We settled for the end of May as the time for her to visit and the weather that weekend could not have been more perfect! We spent all day Friday (literally ALL day) exploring Max Patch and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed shooting with a fellow photographer that shares the same passion for landscapes. It truly, truly was a wonderful weekend.
We started out spending some time at Max Patch. It had been quite a while since I’d been there and it was stunning! I’m definitely going back real soon.
Then we headed to the parkway and first ate lunch at Pisgah View Inn. It was delicious and with our bellies full we headed to Looking Glass Rock and Skinny Dip Falls.
Not far from there was Graveyard Fields. The rododendrons were blooming and they were so pretty! I didn’t get any good pictures of the falls, but I did get one of Jenny :).
Next up was the Cowee Mountain Overlook. Probably the prettiest view on the parkway.
From there we tried to wait out the sunset at Waterknob Rock, but as luck would have it the fog decided to roll in and there was no sunset to see. No matter though, the day was long but wonderful in so many ways.
I’m so glad she visited. Now she needs to come back in the fall when they colors explode, don’t you think?
